Access Statement for Southcroft


Southcroft is situated in the Lower Meads area of Eastbourne, which is approximately half a mile west of the town centre and 200 yards from the seafront.  South Cliff Avenue is a fairly steep hill.

We have five guest bedrooms all with en-suites.  Two double, two twins and a family room (double and single bed).  The rooms are situated on the 1st and 2nd floors.

The nearest railway station is Eastbourne, approximately one mile (a map showing the route from the station is on our website).

Accessible taxis are available if pre booked 01323 720720.

Bus (number 3) from Terminus Road (Stop M) to Compton Street, approximately 5 minutes walk away, every half-hour.

South Cliff Avenue has Victorian brick pavements which tend to be uneven and can be slippery when wet.

Car Parking and Arrival

Car parking is on street, it is unrestricted and free.  Spaces are usually available during the day but it can be busy after 4pm.

Access to the property is gained from the pavement up a small step through a gate on to a paved area.  There are two steps to the front door with a handrail on the right.  The door sill is raised.

The front door is 840mm (33 inches) wide; this gives access to the porch (at night the porch is lit) with a similar width door leading into the hallway and reception area.

Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings and Corridors

Our bedrooms are over two floors, accessed by stairs.  There are sixteen stairs between floors arranged in two flights; there is a handrail on one side.

The stairs are carpeted.

Lightings are a combination of ceiling lights and lamps.

Emergency lighting is provided on the stairs.

Welcome Area

Guest are welcomed in the hallway which is level throughout and this is where guests are asked to register.

The area is well lit with ceiling light and table lamp.

Assistance will be offered with luggage and guests shown to their rooms.


Our beds are normally made up with duvets but sheets and blankets can be provided if preferred.

Our standard pillows are a mixture of man-made filling and/or feather, please specify before arrival if alternatives are required.

There is seating, bedside tables with table lamps, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and mirrors.

Flat screen TV/DVD with subtitles.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms, Toilets (All en-suite)

Bathrooms have level access from the bedroom, and the doorways are 660cm (26 inches) wide.

Toilet seats are 400mm (16 inches) from the floor.

Rooms 3 and 5 have baths with two integral handles with showers over, rooms 1 and 4 have showers, and room 6 has a walk in shower.

Washbasins are 690mm (31 inches) from the floor.

Apart for the bathroom light all bathrooms have fluorescent lights with shaver points over the basins.

The flooring is non-slip vinyl.

Public Areas – Lounge

The lounge is located on the ground floor and has level access; the door width is approximately 701mm (28 inches).

Seating is on sofas and there is one easy chair.

Lighting is by wall or ceiling lights.

The floor is carpeted.

A TV is provided and subtitles may be turned on.

Tourist information and a range of games are available.

Public Areas – Dining Room

The dining room is located on the ground floor and has level access; the door width is approximately 701mm (28 inches).

The flooring is wooden floorboards.

Lighting is by wall or ceiling lights.

Large patio doors allow plenty of light during the day. There are individual tables for each room with upright chairs without arms.

There is a sideboard where guests can help themselves to cereals, fruit, yogurts and juices, assistance can be provided on request.

Special diets or allergies can be catered for with prior notification.

Large print breakfast menus are available on request.


The enclosed patio garden is available to guests.

Access to the garden is via the dining room by one step and a sill.

A bench and chairs are available to guests.

A range of potted plants are around the edge of the paved area.

Additional Information

We are pleased to offer a morning wake up call for guests who are unable to use the bedside alarm provided.

Guests with hearing difficulties are asked to make us aware so that special arrangements can be made should the fire alarm be activated.

Free WiFi is available (please ask for the password).
